Inclement Weather and School Closing Info

Inclement School Closing Updates/Reminders

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, or at least some think so!  It is obvious winter is once again upon our doorstep.  With that being said, I want to send out a few reminders regarding our school closing procedures and to encourage parents to create/review/update your contact information on our Instant Alert Notification System.

Prior to going into any detail regarding our procedures, I want to remind parents the decision to conduct school is predicated upon putting student safety first.  I also understand I am not the parent of your child and the ultimate decision to send them to school is yours.  Therefore, if you choose to keep your child home, these absences will be counted as excused and the District will fully support and respect your decision.

The decision to delay or close school is made as soon as feasibly possible.  Periodically it can be made the night prior and sometimes it may have to wait until the following morning.  If we have to wait until the next day, the goal is to notify parents prior to 6:00 a.m.  Please remember this is our goal and not an absolute.  I have been doing this long enough to know that Mother Nature can be fickle!

I also ask that you create/review/update your contact information on our Honeywell Instant Alert Notification System. (https://instantalert.honeywell.com  there is also a link on our web page)   This has been a magnificent system for us over the years and will continue to serve as our primary medium for parent notification regarding school closings and emergency situations.  It allows you to be contacted via phone call, text message or email.  Periodically there is a hesitation prior to the start of our voice recording - so if you answer your phone and you think it may be us, please wait a few seconds prior to hanging up.  When our Instant Alert system is activated, it makes over 2,200 contacts.  The system will leave a voice message if you do not answer your phone.  Once again, if you missed a call and think it may be us calling, please wait a few minutes and check your voicemail messages.  We always know when the contacts have been made – the District Office phones light up like a Christmas tree with people asking why we called them!  So please take a minute for your voicemail system to activate.

By working together we can ensure our students safely enjoy our winter weather while getting the education they deserve.

Please feel to contact me if you have any questions or concerns!
