ATTENDANCE
Regular attendance is an essential part of a successful school year. Please have your children in school on time each day. Please call us when your child is absent AND send a written excuse when your child returns to school.
EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING
Screenings are held several times a year for children who will be 4 before September of the upcoming school year. The purpose is to identify children who should have a further assessment to determine whether or not the child would be eligible for Special Education service.
CHILD ABUSE/NEGLECT
The professional staff of ISD #2143 are designated by law to report to the proper authorities cases of physical or sexual abuse of children and neglected children. Reports will be filed with the county social services agency. Any professional who submits a report in good faith and exercises due care in doing so is immune from liability.
BUS SCHEDULES AND PRIVILEGES
Bus schedules are sent out yearly in the get ready for school mailing that comes with the new calendar. Many bus routes will change due to new enrollments and families that have moved to the district. Please have your child ready at the bus stop 5 minutes prior to pick up time.
Please examine the schedules carefully. There may be more changes coming as more new enrollment happens. To get a new schedule call the office or stop in.
A student’s riding privilege may be revoked for failing to obey the School District’s bus discipline policy or failing to demonstrate knowledge of school bus safety principles after receiving training. Districts are not required to follow laws governing suspension and expulsion for a student whose riding privileges have been revoked. Provisions must be made for students with disabilities.
BUILDING HOURS
The Waterville-Elysian-Morristown School District does not provide supervision at the school buildings prior to 8:00am (Buses arriving early are the exception).
Students are expected to leave the building after school unless they are involved in an after-school activity.

OPEN ENROLLMENT
In accordance with Chapter 124D, Section 124D.03 Enrollment Options Program under Minnesota Statutes, open enrollment allows Minnesota families to enroll their children in a public school district of their choosing regardless of residential address. The law was enacted in 1988 for the 1989-90 school year in an effort to close the achievement gap. Waterville-Elysian-Morristown is an Achievement and Integration District (under Subd. 4), so the January 15th enrollment deadline is not applicable. Students can enroll in WEM at any time.Â
