Superintendent Search
At the school board meeting held on March 24, 2025, the Waterville-Elysian-Morristown School Board selected five semi-finalists to interview for the school district’s superintendent position. The semi-finalists are:
- Darren Kern, Principal, Le Sueur-Henderson Public Schools, MN
- Dr. Jennifer Wilson, Principal, Waterville-Elysian-Morristown Public Schools, MN
- Dr. Michelle Mortensen, Superintendent, Redfield Public Schools, SD
- Mark Winter, Principal, Rock Ridge Public Schools, MN
- Dr. Michael Neubeck, Superintendent, Byron Public Schools, MN
The semi-finalists were selected from a pool of 11 applicants based on criteria established by the school board and survey input provided by WEM Public Schools staff and members of the public.
All interviews will be held in the Board Room at WEM High School and are open to the public.
Update:
The WEM School Board has chosen to enter into negotiations with Mark Winter as the next WEM Superintendent.
Proposed Timeline

| March 24, 2025 | Board meeting: SCSC Consultants present candidate profile report and make recommendation on candidates to interview. Board approves candidates to interview. |
| March 27, 2025 | Complete the first round of candidate interviews. |
| April 3, 2025 | Conduct final interviews and Board offer. |
April 2-7, 2025 April10, 2025 | SCSC consultants work with WEM Board committee and candidate to finalize contract negotiations. Board work session – Special Meeting to approve new superintendent contract. |
Job Posting
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown (WEM) Public Schools is seeking a Superintendent as of July 1, 2025. Candidates must possess licensure as a Superintendent in the State of Minnesota or demonstrate their ability to secure licensure by July 1, 2025. Previous experience as a superintendent is preferred but not required.
The WEM Schools Office is located in Waterville, Minnesota, approximately 30 miles East of Mankato. The WEM School District serves the communities of Waterville, Elysian and Morristown. It serves approximately 775 students in PreK-12th grade programs.
Job Requirements
- Manage school district operations
- Provide solid day to day management of financial and personnel resources
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of school finance
- Ability to lead teams and groups of people for the future planning of WEM Schools
- Active community involvement
